Control upgrade brings improved workflow to Crystal Vision's chroma keyer

Crystal Vision has further improved the operation of its Safire 3 real-time chroma keyer in a live situation following significant changes to the VisionPanel universal control panel. VisionPanel is designed to operate up to 16 Crystal Vision Indigo or Vision frames, with its physical controls making it well suited to those products that need regular adjustment, such as Safire 3. As broadcasters search for increased efficiency, the VisionPanel enhancements all result in faster and easier operation, with various improvements made to the 3U Ethernet control panel's touch screen, knobs and hard buttons following consultation with expert users who operate chroma keyers on a daily basis.

Multi-functional synchroniser for Crystal Vision's new frame system

Crystal Vision has released a video synchroniser for its new Vision frame system. The best solution for any embedding, de-embedding and timing requirements, SYNNER-VF combines multiple functions on one card to simplify system designs and save broadcast engineers money and rack space. Working with 3Gb/s, HD and SD sources and both AES and analogue audio, SYNNER-VF combines a video synchroniser, tracking audio delay, embedder, de-embedder, audio processor and video proc-amp, and includes flexible delay compensation, advanced handling of Dolby E, comprehensive signal monitoring and optional integrated fibre input/output. SYNNER-VF gives more video outputs than Crystal Vision has offered before on a synchroniser, and takes advantage of the dual reference syncs distributed from the Vision frame, resulting in easier wiring and the option of a backup reference.

Crystal Vision appoints Emerald Communications as Southeast USA rep

Crystal Vision has appointed Emerald Communications as its manufacturer's representative for eight states throughout the Southeast United States. Emerald Communications will be using its extensive dealer and systems integrator relationships to educate and specify Crystal Vision products into end user projects throughout the Southeast. The combined experience and knowledge of Emerald's team gives them a unique understanding of both customer needs and the concerns of manufacturers in the Southeast region.

Formal release of Crystal Vision's IP gateways at IBC 2017 (Stand 2.C28)

Stand 2.C28 at IBC 2017 will see the formal release of Crystal Vision's future-proof IP gateways, which combine purpose-built video over IP hardware with flexible software-based processing. With useful features including status monitoring, clean switching, sophisticated synchronising (including PTP support), delays and IP traffic shaping, the gateways initially support the SMPTE 2022-6 and SMPTE 2022-7 protocols and can be easily reconfigured via a software upgrade to support SMPTE 2110 essence-based protocols. The introduction of the Vision 1 1U frame brings further flexibility to the Vision frame system, providing housing for up to four cards and incorporating the usual Vision benefits including numerous signal outputs, dual reference syncs distributed from the frame and the ability to be used with higher bandwidth signals such as IP and 4K. The Safire 3 real-time chroma keyer gets improved live operation from the VisionPanel control panel while continuing to benefit from Crystal Vision's acclaimed support and five year warranty.

Four up and down converters for Crystal Vision's new frame system

Crystal Vision has released four up and down converters for the Vision frame system, each with different features for different applications. Performing flexible up, down and cross conversions between 3Gb/s, HD and SD sources, the UP-DOWN-VF range has inherited the excellent picture processing which has seen broadcasters standardise on Crystal Vision up and down converters and also introduces some new benefits for the first time – including more video outputs, relay bypass protection, complimentary SNMP and the option of a backup reference for the synchronising versions.

Crystal Vision appoints Paradigm Marketing Group as Central USA rep

Crystal Vision has expanded its US sales force with the appointment of Paradigm Marketing Group (PMG) as its manufacturer's representative for 18 states throughout the Central United States. Although recently established, PMG staff have over 30 years of experience providing technical and operational support to the broadcast and professional video industries, and have established strong relationships with all of the leading design consultants, dealers, end users and systems integrators in the Central United States. PMG is currently the representative for three other manufacturers 360 Systems Broadcast, Link Electronics and MNC Software.

Flexible embedder/de-embedder for Crystal Vision's new frame system

TANDEM10-VF

Crystal Vision has added flexible embedding and de-embedding to its new Vision frame system. Working with 3Gb/s, HD and SD sources, TANDEM10-VF is a powerful four group audio embedder/de-embedder with the ability to embed and de-embed a mixture of up to eight external AES stereo pairs and four stereo pairs (or eight mono channels) of external analogue audio making it equally suited to those who need to embed and de-embed at the same time or to those who want a single product for use as an embedder or de-embedder as required. Giving more video outputs than the company's previous embedders/de-embedders, the feature-rich TANDEM10-VF includes full audio routing, audio and video processing, flexible delay compensation, fibre input/output connectivity and comprehensive signal monitoring.

Crystal Vision underpins expansion for major UK broadcaster at MediaCityUK

As part of a BBC-wide strategy to migrate towards IP contribution methods, BBC North has expanded the ability to land IP circuits directly into the MediaCity campus. A number of modular devices from Crystal Vision have been used as part of this expansion in order to interface with existing HD/SDI infrastructure.

Crystal Vision releases fibre transmitter and receiver for its new frame system

FTX-VF and FRX-VF

Crystal Vision has released a fibre optic transmitter and receiver for its new Vision frame system. The FTX-VF dual channel fibre transmitter and FRX-VF dual channel fibre receiver have been designed to transmit and receive 3Gb/s, HD and SD signals over large distances. Meeting the SMPTE 297-2006 short-haul specification, they can be used with single-mode or multi-mode fibre and are perfect for moving signals around in big installations. With up to 20 space-saving cards (40 channels) fitting in 3U, the useful features include full DVB-ASI compatibility and the ability to fit CWDM lasers along with multiple outputs and loop-throughs which reduce the need for additional distribution amplifiers.

Crystal Vision's new frame system and future-proof IP gateways at the 2017 NAB Show (Booth N3010)

Booth N3010 at the 2017 NAB Show will be showing Crystal Vision's forward-looking Vision frame system suitable for SDI, IP and 4K which is now shipping, along with its core interface cards including up and down converters, synchronisers, fibre optic transmitters and receivers, audio embedders/de-embedders and distribution amplifiers for analogue and digital video and audio. Crystal Vision will be discussing its future-proof IP gateways: initially supporting the SMPTE 2022-6 and SMPTE 2022-7 protocols and including PTP as a timing source option, they can be easily reconfigured via a software upgrade for the new standards as they emerge. Crystal Vision will also be showing its well-established Indigo frame system with its popular chroma keyers, logo keyers, video delays and fail-safe routing switches.

Stand M01 at BVE 2017 will be showing Crystal Vision's forward-looking Vision frame system which is now shipping, along with its initial core cards essential for any interface system including up and down converters, synchronisers, fibre optic transmitters and receivers, audio embedders/de-embedders and distribution amplifiers for analogue and digital video and audio. With its ability to work with higher bandwidth signals such as IP and 4K (as well as SDI), benefits offered by the Vision 3 frame include high packing density of up to 20 cards, numerous outputs and dual syncs distributed from the frame. Visitors to the London show will also be able to discuss Crystal Vision's unique approach to video over IP which has led to the development of flexible IP gateway products which will be housed in the Vision frame.

Crystal Vision releases digital and analogue audio DAs for its new frame system

DADA-VF and AADA-VF

Crystal Vision has released two audio distribution amplifiers for its new Vision frame system. Designed for distributing AES or Word Clock reference, the DADA-VF offers the choice of dual or single channel configuration (with four outputs per channel or eight outputs), reclocking or non-reclocking, 110 ohm or 75 ohm impedance and 32kHz to 192kHz sample rates and is the first digital audio DA from Crystal Vision to include remote control. Designed for the robust distribution of analogue audio, the AADA-VF can be configured as either a stereo amplifier or mono amplifier (with four outputs per channel or eight outputs) and includes audio silence detection, overvoltage detection and the most extensive gain adjustment Crystal Vision has ever offered.

Crystal Vision releases digital and analogue video DAs for its new frame system

3GDA-VF and VDA-VF

Crystal Vision has released two video distribution amplifiers for its new Vision frame system, both with more outputs than the company has ever offered before and including remote control as standard. The 3GDA-VF is a very flexible video distribution amplifier: it can be configured as reclocking or non-reclocking, it will distribute any digital video (3Gb/s, HD and SD) as well as being DVB-ASI compatible, and it is not even limited to video with its ability to distribute MADI audio. Including useful gain, equalisation and clamp adjustments, the VDA-VF analogue video distribution amplifier has been designed to distribute SD Black and Burst or HD tri-level syncs reference, and can also be used to create multiple copies of analogue video. Those using the Vision DAs have discovered that their systems work out cheaper compared to using the company's traditional Indigo range.

With its ability to work with higher bandwidth signals such as IP and 4K (as well as SDI), benefits offered by the Vision 3 frame include high packing density of up to 20 cards in 3U, numerous outputs and dual syncs distributed from the frame. There will be the first demonstrations of Crystal Vision's IP gateways, which are protocol agnostic and include support for SMPTE 2022. With the biggest range of boards and a choice of frame sizes, the Indigo products on show will include the real-time chroma keyers, which this year are enjoying their greatest popularity to date.

Crystal Vision the key for HD virtual studio upgrade

BBC Northern Ireland

Crystal Vision provided a large number of modular boards, including three of its industry-leading Safire 3 chroma keyers, as part of a major upgrade to Studio B at the home of BBC Northern Ireland in Belfast. The contract was with systems integrator Dega Broadcast Systems which carried out the upgrade. Studio B is primarily used for regional news and magazine programmes, including Newsline, the popular local news broadcast. As part of the continuing development of BBC regional output, the studio was being upgraded to HD. Virtual studio and augmented reality capabilities were included in the Studio B upgrade, ensuring the most flexible use of the studio as well as giving a modern look to Newsline and other programmes.

Crystal Vision brings its IP-compatible new frame to the 2016 NAB Show (Booth N3919)

Crystal Vision will be showing the industry's most forward-looking frame system on Booth N3919 at the 2016 NAB Show. Vision 3 is a new 3U frame suitable not only for SDI video and audio products including the chroma and linear keyers, up and down converters, synchronisers, embedders, video and audio delays and audio converters all available at launch but also for future video over IP and 4K products. The company will be discussing its forthcoming SMPTE 2022-based IP gateway products which are protocol agnostic, with Crystal Vision's software-based approach making it easy to configure them for other agreed protocols. Also on show will be the well-established Indigo frame system: better than it has ever been with new software which allows backup and restore of settings and housing a full range of interface and keying boards including the new chroma key news bureau package which brings both financial and operational benefits.

Crystal Vision's new frame makes UK debut at BVE 2016 (Stand N01)

The industry's most forward-looking frame system will be making its UK debut on Stand N01 at BVE 2016 with the launch of Vision 3 from Crystal Vision a 3U frame equally suitable for adapted variants of the company's existing SDI video and audio products as well as for future IP and 4K products. The initial Vision cards due to ship in early 2016 are chroma and linear keyers, up and down converters, synchronisers, embedders, video and audio delays and audio converters that all benefit from features only available in the Vision frame including higher packing density, extra outputs and dual syncs distributed from the frame. At BVE Crystal Vision will also be discussing its video over IP solutions for converting between SDI and IP signals, due for release in summer 2016. For those who need the biggest range of products and a choice of frame sizes, the Indigo frame system is better than it has ever been with new frame software released in November 2015 which allows backup and restore of settings ideal for the UK market where Crystal Vision has sold many big Indigo systems.

Crystal Vision provides the foundation for ORF studio upgrade

Crystal Vision has won a contract to provide the core technical infrastructure for a major upgrade to studio RP3 at the headquarters of ORF in Vienna, Austria. The contract calls for close to 200 individual Crystal Vision modules including fibre connectivity, up/down/cross converters, synchronisers and analogue/digital conversion. The project also calls for a large number of distribution amplifiers; this was one of the key requirements in the system design, and the Crystal Vision architecture is particularly well suited to delivering multiple outputs simply and cleanly.

Crystal Vision synchronises and augments UK election night coverage

Crystal Vision provided a large number of additional interface cards, up and down converters and keyers to convert BBC Studios and Post Production (BBC S&PP) Studio D at Elstree to a communications hub and augmented reality studio. This formed the centrepiece of the BBC's coverage of the UK General Election in May 2015. Studio D, at over 11,000 square feet, is normally host to large production projects such as Harry Hills' Stars in Their Eyes and Children in Need. For the night of the UK's election it was converted into a communications hub as well as the production studio for the results coverage. The audience watching through the night needed to get the results as they came in from around the country, together with informed comment and analysis.

79 Crystal Vision logo keyers used in UK Houses of Parliament distribution system upgrades

Crystal Vision was selected by UK systems integrator Techex to supply 79 MultiLogo logo keyers as part of a prestigious project to provide a new annunicator TV head-end system at the Houses of Parliament in London. Selected primarily due to their high packing density and advanced audio functionality, the modular three-layer logo keyers are providing a new information alert system to all MPs, Peers and staff in the Houses of Parliament and surrounding Government buildings.
